The incredible Group 1 (Bill, Rachel, Sara and I) has met live on the web to discuss the Brainstorm session of the Group Leadership Project of CEP812.
After the horrendous experience with WebHuddle it felt really fantastic to use Adobe Connect. All went really smooth, logging into the meeting, getting audio and also video. The only issues we faced was a lot of audio feedback, which created massive echos. Also the video worked fine for 2 participants simultaneously but we couldn’t get all four at the same time.
Please see the screenshot below with video of just Bill and myself as well as the chat function in great use. The desktop sharing would be used later in the session to divvy up the work.
Nonetheless the operational issues were not blocking us having an effective meeting. On the screen we used the chat area to get everyone aligned and ensure that everybody understood how to activate the mic. As soon as mic and audio feedback issues were (more or less) resolved we just used the video and audio including the recording. Unlike WebHuddle where there’s only one person at the time that can talk in Adobe Connect everyone has talking privileges. At the same time it requires a bit of collaborative discipline because as soon as two or more people do speak simultaneously it becomes quite messy.

We’ve also recorded the session but it doesn’t work on my Mac!! The rest of the group reported similar issues and only Sara got it to work for just 17 seconds. Bill as the host was the only one who could access the recorded session, but it hasn’t worked out for me unfortunately.
In the session we agreed on the following:
- Jing is the technology we will feature in our tutorial.
- Slides will be prepared in PowerPoint
- Slideshare or Screencastomatic will be used for our tutorial
The content has been divided as follows:
- Sara: Introduction and how to download Jing
- Rachel: How to do a screenshot
- Spike: How to record a video
- Bill: How to upload and share the video
- Sara: How to use the additional features (drawing lines, arrows etc.)
Timing:
- Storyboards: to be sent to Bill by June 6.
- PowerPoint presentations: handed in to Rachel by June 15.
It was great to hear that the Adobe session was so successful - especially after the group's WebHuddle experience.
